Marvelette Missives – Too Many Comic Book Movies?!

“Why are there so many superhero movies?”

“What’s with all the comic book stuff?”

“When is Hollywood going to move on from comics?”

These questions seem to come up a lot from movie-goers, primarily the Norms (i.e., non-geeks). So let me say this first: I enjoy super hero movies and don’t think there are too many of them. Now that that’s out of the way, let me explain. More

Now Geek This on The Fantastic Four movie.

nowgeekthisAs you are no doubt are aware, last weekend saw the release of the latest Fantastic Four movie.  This latest version in the franchise is directed by Josh Trank, and stars Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell as Thing.  I was originally going to write a simple review of this movie, but I just did not feel satisfied with just giving it a short review.  I hope you will forgive me for ranting a bit on this topic. Now Geek This Reviews Mad Max: Fury Road

nowgeekthisIn this edition of Now Geek This, I will be reviewing the movie Mad Max: Fury Road, a reboot of the Mad Max franchise of the early eighties that made Mel Gibson a star.  The reboot, directed by original Mad Max director George Miller, stars Tom Hardy as the new version of the titular character Mad Max.  The film also stars Charlize Theron, who does an excellent job as one of the other main characters in the film, Imperator Furiosa.   More

Now Geek This: Star Wars, Avengers, and Batman Vs. Superman…..Oh my!

nowgeekthisWell, it certainly has been quite a week to be a geek, has it not?  We’ve had a deluge of geekery thrown at us this week, a veritable monsoon if you will.  There has been so much excitement this week, I could swear that the geek center of my brain was going to explode.  I don’t know if I can take much more geeky goodness, but, I am certainly willing to test that limit if any more newsbits should happen to be released.  Now then, let us discuss some of those tasty morsels, shall we? Review: The Man With The Iron Fists 2

wbg review w bgpWow what a weekend, MegaCon for Mike, Steel City Comic Con for Julz, Daredevil on Netflix,Game of Thrones on HBO and today on Blu-Ray and DVD, The Man With the Iron Fists 2 is released. Did you liked the first film, then you like The Man With the Iron Fists 2. TMWTIF2 is also done in a grindhouse style mixing the feel of a martial arts film  but with a hip-hop soundtrack.. You don’t have to have seen the first film to enjoy this one, it gives you enough of a synapsis from TMWTIFso you don’t feel lost. Part 2 gives you the ending of previous film,

The silver mine is run by Master Ho (Carl Ng),he has enslaved the village to his command with help from his Beetle Clan. Li (Dustin Nguyen) is the spokesman for the miners and is also a a champion for the villiage. Thaddeus (RZA ) gets defeated early on his quest to find redemption, Buddha, and his inner peace. More

Now Geek This: Marvel Movie Madness!

nowgeekthisIt is a good time to be a Marvel fan.  As a longtime comic book reader, and a huge Marvel fan going back to my childhood days, it has always been a dream of mine to see my favorite Marvel superheroes on the big screen.  For the first half of my life, that dream seemed impossible.  Marvel’s rival, DC comics had a couple of good movies under their belt starring their biggest characters like Superman and Batman, yet Marvel had nothing to offer their fans  but failed attempts or cheesy interpretations of their characters.

Tales from the Geek Side: Smothered The Review

tftgs

What do you get when after a convention appearance gig turns out to be wildly unsuccessful and unpleasant, Smothered, a comedy horror film by John Schnieder. A group of cult horror icons, Kane Hodder, R.A. Mihailoff, Bill Moseley, Don Shanks, and Malcom Danare, find themselves persuaded to “haunt” a trailer park for the promise of $1,000 a piece for what should be relatively easy work. When they arrive they meet their employer – the trailer park’s owner – an unpleasant old bat named Agnes and her much more pleasant (at least to the eye) daughter DeeDee, who lives up to that name in the most obvious way. The group arrives at the park but soon discovers that there is more to the job than they had initially been expected and that their own lives are at risk. More
