We also talk about changes in comics and working clean, as they put it in the comedy world. We also get some great industry stories from Roland, which is always a treat. We also learn about the Kickstarter they have going on for this title. Which should be out by the time you are reading this. We had the chance to preview Tiny. WPG Ep 170: Random Thoughts With Nicole Wright & Tonya Dodds

In this episode of We Be Geeks, the gang welcomes Nicole Wright and Tonya Dodds, formerly of Super Geeked Up, who are starting their own webseries called The Nicole and Tonya show. We start off by letting Nicole and Tonya describe their new series to us, then, the girls open up to a wide variety of topics. One of the topics we discuss is how Nicole and Tonya handle a working relationship living far apart from each other, including how they both write and film together. The girls talk a bit about how the seasons of their new series might be broken up, before talking a bit about some possible reoccurring bits on the show. The discussion then leads to ideas that might not be realistic for Nicole and Tonya to do on a miniscule budget to ideas that might just be too over the top to film. Since Tonya is from Toronto Canada, there is some talk about Canadian musicians, and a bit of discussion about Canadian sports teams can be found in the episode as well. Tonya begrudgingly admits to reading all of the Twlight series, which then leads into a discussion about Nicole’s entertainment background, including location scouting for film and television,as well as a mention of a feature film that Tonya has produced called Red Spring.

The conversation naturally moves towards creating and the virtue of Collaboration with people before moving to talk of superhero movies and Netflix Marvel shows. Nicole and Tonya tell us about the magic of movie editing, and then tell us tales of meeting some interesting celebrities. The episode ends in laughter and shenanigans as we all talk about trips to Canada that naturally leads into a discussion of drinking. Nicole and Tonya were great guest who were very entertaining.

WPG Ep 168: Marvelous SciFi

This week we are celebrating Star Wars Day! News of Celebration headed to Orlando next year has Mike super excited. Could it be a future We Be Geeks meet up site?
Star Trek is coming out with a new series, but you have to pay for a subscription service. That most likely won’t sit well with fans, but it is Star Trek. If you make it, fans will watch. The Russo Brothers are changing the name of Infinity part 1 & 2, “stating that they are two completely different movies.” Not sure how we feel about that, but hopefully we will get some news soon on what it will be retitled. Person of Interest is back for one last season. It’s better to have an ending than to just cancel it. Maybe Jim Caviezel can play Batman now. Well a version of him anyways.

WPG Ep 167: The Pros And Cons

This week, we start off the show by wishing our co-host Brett a very happy birthday. Brett then tells us about receiving the Star Wars: The Force Awakens dvd for his birthday which leads into a discussion about the extras on all of the Star Wars dvds, including a remastered version of the Boba Fett cartoon from the long lost, not so special, Star Wars Holiday Special. Brining up those fond memories leads the gang into a discussion of the animation studio Nelvana, and all of the fantastic cartoons put out by them, including a Doctor Who cartoon that never saw the light of day. Talking cartoons naturally leads into a discussion of Saturday Morning cartoons, and the We Be Geeks crew laments the loss of their childhood pastimes.
From there, the crew begins a long discussion about Cosplaying, both the pros and cons of “professional” cosplayers, and their involvement with conventions. We express our feelings towards those who cosplay to become famous versus those who do it for the love of cosplaying, then talk about the way that cosplayers are too often treated during conventions in regards to boundaries. The discussion weaves towards the frustrating topic of nerd bullying, then moves on to the possible definitions of “geek” and “nerd” before moving back towards cosplay.
Long lost co-host Julz makes an appearance towards the end of the cosplay conversation, sparking the group to change topics slightly as they discuss the issues Wizard World has been having with their conventions of late. With Julz on board, we then briefly discuss the introduction of the newest companion on Doctor Who, and then begin talking about our distaste for commercials on apps like Crackle and Amazon Prime.
Next up, the gang discusses the announcement that actor/geek icon Nathan Fillion will be playing Wonder Man in the next Guardians of the Galaxy film, and we give our thoughts on that topic. After that topic, we talk about the latest clip from Captain America: Civil War, which features more Spidey goodness, and then discusses the latest trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse. Movie talk leads the group to mention the sacrifices Derrick has made for the group watching some bad movies, like the Fantastic Flop, so that they don’t have too.
Julz mentions her excitement for the upcoming Angry Birds movie, and then Mike speaks briefly about the We Be Geeks affiliate Comic Bento Box, who has some interesting offers for our listeners.
The gang mentions the fact that the Marvel Inhumans movie has been rescheduled, and then talk a bit about the possibility of Fox Studios finally collaborating with Marvel on some of their films as Sony has done with Spider-Man.
We then shine the spotlight on DC as we discuss Jesse Quick coming to the Flash TV show, then talk about our thoughts towards DC’s Legends of Tomorrow show. There is some talk about the premier of Game of Thrones, which we tried to keep spoiler free, and a brief bit of football talk before the We Be Geeks crew signs off.

WPG Ep165: 24 Reasons With Couch Tomato

This week, the team is all together again ready to take on the podcasting world. The Doctor Strange trailer just dropped and we are pretty excited to watch it. The guest of honor is the talented YouTube personality, Couch Tomato. Couch gave the team some insight on how he started into this YouTube journey, and is a very positive voice. His 24 reasons videos are addicting and spot on. Couch is also a podcaster. His knowledge of movies is vast, and it shows in his videos. We learned that the one time he was “roasted” by fans was early on in his experience with his 24 reasons Godzilla the 1998 and 2014 versions are the same movie. Fans can be brutal, but Couch never gave up and is super successful with a huge fan base. Some new things for Couch, since he just celebrated his one year anniversary: a mobile game(Hollywood RPG), product placement videos, and #cinematiclivesmatter. We also found out some of his favorite YouTube personalities as well. You can check him out on YouTube and make suggestions of movies you would like him to compare.

WBG Ep 164: WTH C-3PO MIA

This week, the We Be Geeks gang begins by talking about Star Wars comics, particularly the new Poe Dameron ongoing series, the MIA C3-PO one-shot, and the absurd amount of variant covers coming out this month. Talking Marvel naturally leads us into a discussion about the announcement of more shows coming to Netflix like a possible Punisher or Cloak and Dagger show.
Switching gears, we then talk about Batman vs Superman, aka the Flop of Justice. We cover big box office losses that could jeopardize the future of upcoming movies before delving into a discussion about Ben Affleck’s Batman being a direct continuation of Michael Keaton’s Batman from the 1989 movie. There is talk about the dream sequences in Batman vs. Superman, including the glimpse of a post-apocalyptic future, all of which felt out of place in the movie.
We cleanse our distaste of Batman Hearts Superman with a discussion about Game of Thrones and our excitement for the upcoming season before discussing the season finale of Walking Dead. There are spoilers ahead, so be cautious if you have not watched the finale yet.
We then switch to the DC television universe with talk of the character Katie Cassidy coming to the Flash and hanging out with Vixen in future episodes.
Mike takes a few moments to talk about his stress levels and his attempts to alleviate that stress before moving on to talk about the plethora of X-Men and Avengers comic books being published by Marvel these days.
We talk briefly about pictures of Benedict Cumberbatch buying comics dressed as Doctor Strange, then move on to a story about the company Sphero updating their BB-8 toys so that the droid can react to Star Wars: The Force Awakens when you let him watch the movie alongside you.
We talk about the comic book side of DC as we discuss our thoughts on the upcoming Rebirth event, and our general feelings towards reboots of any kind.
We finish off the night with talk of Crackle and Amazon Prime, and some of the shows that can be found on those platforms, such as the Tick and Powers.

WBG Ep163: 7-11 Coffee With Get Spy Cast

This episode the crew had the pleasure of speaking with the cast and director from the web series Get Spy. We had David Beatty, Chelsea Alden, Alyson Daniel, as well as Lorin and Eric Davis. We talked season two of the series. Episode 1 is out now and new episodes will be released every Tuesday. We talk Tech Girl and her shining moment of her monologue for people not knowing her real name. We talk the difficulty of shooting a fight scene with a baby on your back with Lorin. We talk Harry Potter at the Disney theme parks. We lay out the growth of the characters for season 2 with no spoilers. We talk about the return of Alyson’s character after her apparent death in season 1. We also pitch ideas for season 3, and consider how to get that puppy funded. All in all it was a great interview with some talented creators that you don’t want to miss.

WBG Episode 162: American Pod Story

On this exciting edition of We Be Geeks, we have no guest and no Julz this week, so the boys are left to hold the fort down on their own. Sort of an American Pod StoryThe show starts off with some news that there is a new television show based on the Tick comic book series coming to Amazon Prime. The latest announcement names actor Peter Serafinowicz as the Tick himself. Next, Mike begins discussing his recent discovery of the Crackle app, which leads to a trip down memory lane as the guys discuss the classic shows and movies that can be found on the Crackle app.
After gushing about the app, the discussion moves to a big announcement from DC about the status of their upcoming movies, including Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, and even Cyborg. The gang discusses the potential issues with the solo Cyborg movie, which include a concern that Cyborg might not be enough of a recognizable character for the “mainstream audience” at large.
Speaking of The Flash and DC movies, the boys discuss a statement made by director Zach Snyder concerning his decision that Grant Gustin from the WB Flash series would not fit in the vision he has for the DC filmverse. That naturally leads to a discussion about the upcoming Batman vs. Superman movie, or, as the We Be Geeks crew call it, Batman Hearts Superman: The Flop of Justice. The reviews are out for the movie, and we cover a bad review along with a good review, and what those reviews say about the film.
There is a brief mention of the announcement of Elijah Wood starring in Dirk Gently’s Hollistic Detective Agency right before Mike announces a new podcast being added to the We Be Geeks network. The new podcast will be a DC podcast run by Ken from Geek Watch One, who loyal We Be Geeks listeners may remember from our crossover episodes with Ken and Kylan. We look forward to hearing what they have to say about DC comics and movies.
After the announcement, the gang moves on to discuss the prospects of Daisy Ridely starring as Lara Croft in the next Tomb Raider movie. Then, Mike brings up the fact that the videogame Resident Evil is twenty years old this year, making all of us on the podcast feel very old.
We finish off the show with a discussion about the latest episode of Walking Dead, spoiler free of course, and the upcoming finale that has been officially clocked at ninety minutes long. There is talk of the FX series American Crime Story: The People v. O. J. Simpson, and the surprising level of foul language on the show, followed by a brief discussion of the new season of the Marvel/Netflix show Daredevil. We close the show with talk of the Fox series Gotham, sparked by the appearance of Pee Wee Herman himself, Paul Reubens on the show, which then leads to talk of the various Robins in Batman’s life.
