The Now Geek This! Fall Television Season Preview

At last, the long, hot summer is giving way to the cool, crisp air of autumn, and that means that the new television season is at last upon us!  I have scoured the listings of new shows trying to decide what might catch my interest, and I have come up with a list of shows that I will be checking out as they premier.  Some of these shows I am actually genuinely interested in seeing, while others, I will be watching simply for the curiosity factor of the particular show.  Here is the list of shows I personally will be checking out, along with the reasons why I am interested in them.  The question remains, how many of these shows will actually be any good, and how many of them will be utter dreck.  The answers to those questions will be revealed as the premier weeks unfold, so stay tuned my friends.  In the meantime, you can see if you and I have any similar choices, or even similar reasons for our choices.  This article will cover the shows starting in September.  I will cover the shows starting in October in a future article. Now Geek This: The New TV Shows I am Excited About

nowgeekthisAs you are no doubt aware, it is now September, and that can be and exiting time for geeks because it means that there will be a whole crop of new television shows to harvest.  Each year, a variety of new series start in the fall, some that will be the next big success, and some that are guaranteed to quickly fall into obscurity.  Being the TV geek that I am, I always take time to research the new shows coming out to determine which ones I will find interesting or exciting, and which ones I will be avoiding. I decided to focus this article strictly on the shows that I am looking forward to, while ignoring the shows I have no interest in.  Without further ado, let’s begin, shall we? More

Now Geek This Reviews The Whispers and Stichers, Plus More!

nowgeekthisIn this edition of Now Geek This, I will be talking about two new shows that both started last week, and which both happen to be on ABC channels interestingly enough.  The first show, a science fiction/drama with horror overtones that goes by the title The whispers, airs on the prime ABC network on Mondays at 10:PM.  The second show, a more straight up science fiction show called Stitchers, airs on the ABC Family channel on Tuesdays at 9PM.  More

Now Geek This: Marvel Movie Madness!

nowgeekthisIt is a good time to be a Marvel fan.  As a longtime comic book reader, and a huge Marvel fan going back to my childhood days, it has always been a dream of mine to see my favorite Marvel superheroes on the big screen.  For the first half of my life, that dream seemed impossible.  Marvel’s rival, DC comics had a couple of good movies under their belt starring their biggest characters like Superman and Batman, yet Marvel had nothing to offer their fans  but failed attempts or cheesy interpretations of their characters.

Now Geek This: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug review

cooltext1205573672Hello, and welcome to another exciting edition of Now Geek This.  Today, I will be reviewing The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, directed by fan favorite Peter Jackson.

Before I begin my review, I must reveal two important factors regarding my viewing of this movie.  The first thing I must disclose is that I have not read the Hobbit or even watched the Rankin/Bass cartoon since I was a very young child, so the exact details of the story are a distant memory to me.  I know what you are thinking, “blasphemy!”  Just hold on a minute, I think that gave me a fresh perspective on these movies.  I know the basic story of the Hobbit of course; it is just the exact details of the story that elude me.
